We have guests from over 25 different countries every year and each of them have different customs. We have been asked to provide guidance on tipping so please read on if you are from a country where this is customary.
While our expedition leaders receive fair wages and don’t rely on tips for their livelihood, tips for exceptional service are always appreciated though never expected. They won’t be offended if you don’t tip, but they will certainly appreciate the gesture if you do.
While tipping isn’t mandatory in Norway, it’s a nice gesture to show appreciation for a good expedition leader/guide, especially for multi-day tours, and a tip of around 10% of the tour cost is generally considered appropriate. Perhaps more if tipping as a couple or group.
Please note: Tipping is a personal transaction between guests and the expedition leaders/guides. SUP Norway management are not involved in any way.
Here’s a breakdown:
- Tipping is not expected, but appreciated.
- Unlike in some countries, tipping isn’t a cultural norm in Norway, and service personnel are paid a decent wage.
- Consider a tip for good or exceptional service. If you’re happy with your tour guide’s performance, a tip is a thoughtful way to show your appreciation.
- 10% of the tour cost is a good guideline.
